I just wanted to send you a quick note.
I want you to check out my new thesis production, which is apart of the Seabury Quinn Jr. Playwrights' Festival at Ohio University May 20-23rd, 2009... this play is perhaps one of the greatest pieces of theatre, God has blessed me to write yet and it's called SOUTHBRIDGE. ( http://www.ohioplaywriting.org/festival.html )
This play is the 2009 National Runner-up for the Lorraine Hansberry Award and the Rosa Park Playwriting Award. Hopefully I'll have some pages available to read soon up on my site, and maybe even have a published version to purchase. This play SOUTHBRIDGE has opened my eyes and my soul in so many ways, giving me a better insight about what I'm willing to sacrifice. It's interesting what we learn about ourselves when we examine our lives through our art. I often sit in rehearsal and during our preview nights and say to myself I think the world should see this.
I started off writing this story based on the lynching of a man in Athens, Ohio in 1881... A man that so little is known about and it turned into somehow a personal observation and discovery of my own soul. Once the pages were completed and placed before an audience. I have to say it was an amazing experience as I sat in the audience and watched as the piece ended and the audience finally let out a collective breath and I knew at that moment that I am not alone when it comes to these feeling that I have wrestling inside of me.
We write our own truths... but we certainly share them as well collectively.
Sincerely,
Reginald Edmund
